Dear Families,

Welcome to our classroom community!  I am so excited to get this year going and I can’t wait to learn all about my wonderful new students and all of you in the coming weeks!

The first few weeks of school we will be focusing on community building, becoming familiar with routines and learning more about each other’s strengths and interests.  We will be creating a class family promise, which outlines the ways that we would like to feel during school time and the behaviors that we will agree to exhibit in order to experience those feelings.  We will also play some getting to know you games, review expectations for our school day, and begin discovering the objectives outlined in the second grade curriculum.

In addition, I will be spending some time with students individually in order to get a deeper understanding of what their goals are for second grade.  My intention is to make sure that every student feels valued as a member of our classroom family during the first weeks of school and the coming year.  Starting out with a strong sense of community will have a powerful impact on our success throughout the year.

I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher this year!  This is my fifth year with my own classroom as a certificated teacher but I have been working and volunteering in schools for many years.  Prior to getting my Masters in Teaching from UW Seattle, I was a para in the Bellevue School District where I focused on kindergarten and first grade and I spent a year in second grade as a student teacher.  I feel very lucky to be working on Mercer Island, specifically at West Mercer.  The teachers, specialists and administrators are all so inspiring and I feel like an important part of the Wolf Pack!

As excited as I am to get to know all of my new students, I am equally excited about meeting all of you.  Our communication this year will be paramount to your child receiving the best possible education.  You know your child best, and I am always open to your ideas and feedback.  Please feel free to contact me via email first, at any time.

I look forwarding to seeing you at the Open House on Tuesday, August 30th from 3-4 p.m.!  (If you didn't pre-order school supplies please bring them to the Open House.)
